Nano microporous insulation powder is a granular form of the same microporous matrix used in our rigid boards and flexible sheets, supplied in standard 25 kilogram bags or 500 kilogram bulk bags depending on project size. The powder is designed for applications where rigid boards or flexible sheets cannot easily be installed: irregular cavities, gaps between equipment components, difficult-access spaces, and on-site filling of complex geometries. Common applications include filling the void between existing refractory and a new hot-face lining, filling expansion gaps and penetrations in high-temperature equipment, and in-situ formation of insulation layers in furnace doors, kiln cars, and heat treatment fixtures. The powder delivers the same thermal performance as the rigid board: thermal conductivity of approximately 0.020 watts per meter kelvin at ambient after compaction.
Nano microporous insulation powder is applied in three ways depending on the application. First, gravity filling: pour or scoop the powder into open cavities and gaps, then compact by tamping or vibration to a target density of approximately 220 kilograms per cubic meter. Second, pneumatic conveying: blow the powder through hoses into closed cavities, equipment, and void spaces, where the powder settles to a consistent density without compaction. Third, spray application: blend the powder with a high-temperature inorganic binder and spray onto surfaces using standard refractory spray equipment to form a trowel-smooth or rough-textured insulation layer. Our standard nano microporous insulation powder has a bulk density of 180 to 250 kilograms per cubic meter depending on compaction, and a particle size distribution of 0.1 to 3.0 millimeters. The powder contains a controlled fraction of fines (under 0.1 millimeters) to fill interstitial space and a coarser fraction (0.5 to 3.0 millimeters) to maintain flowability and reduce shrinkage during service. Special grades are available: ultra-fine grade with maximum particle size of 0.5 millimeters for spray applications, and granular grade with size range of 1.0 to 5.0 millimeters for gravity fill applications requiring high flow rates. Custom blends can be produced against a target density or particle size distribution. Each batch is supplied with a certificate of analysis showing actual density, particle size distribution, and thermal conductivity at three reference temperatures.
Nano microporous insulation powder is a non-hazardous, non-fibrous material based on fumed silica and ceramic opacifiers. It does not contain respirable crystalline silica at the regulatory threshold and is not classified as a carcinogen, mutagen, or reproductive toxicant under the Global Harmonized System. Recommended handling includes standard dust mask during pouring or pneumatic application to avoid nuisance dust, plus standard work gloves and eye protection. We supply a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) with every shipment in compliance with GHS, OSHA, and EU REACH requirements. For new equipment design, rigid boards deliver better thermal performance per thickness and per dollar, but powder remains the choice for filling joints, gaps, and penetrations within a rigid-board assembly. Many projects use both: rigid boards for the primary insulation envelope and powder for filling the gaps within and around the boards.

The powder flows readily into small openings under gravity or pneumatic pressure and compacts to a density similar to the rigid board, which means equivalent thermal performance at the gap location. To avoid settling over time we recommend fully filling the cavity in horizontal layers of 100 millimeters, compacting each layer before adding the next. For very deep cavities, periodic vertical pins or mesh restraints prevent powder migration during thermal cycling.
