Nano microporous insulation boards for high-temperature industrial applications

PE-Faced Nano Microporous Insulation Board

Nano microporous insulation board with PE film surface

Product Description:

PE-Faced Nano Microporous Insulation Board from Anchor-tech is a high-performance insulation board. It is based on our standard nano microporous board, with an added PE film on the surface. This PE coating provides waterproof, moisture-resistant, and dust-proof protection—while keeping the excellent thermal insulation properties of the base material.

The PE film helps keep the worksite clean. It prevents dust from falling off during installation and reduces the risk of workers inhaling harmful particles. At high temperatures, the PE film burns away completely. It leaves no residue and does not affect the board’s thermal performance.

Because PE film is non-conductive, this product is ideal for fireproof and thermal insulation in battery systems and energy storage cabinets. It offers strong electrical insulation and added safety in these applications.

The board has an ultra-low thermal conductivity. Even at 600°C, it maintains a value of just 0.028 W/m·K. It delivers the same insulation performance as traditional materials—but with only one-quarter to one-sixth of the thickness. This makes it a great choice where space or weight is limited.

It is especially suitable for industries like automotive, home appliances, photovoltaic annealing furnaces, and sapphire sintering furnaces. The product is flame-retardant and can withstand temperatures up to 1200°C.

Thickness can be customized from 5 mm to 50 mm. The board is easy to process and cost-effective. It’s an ideal solution for customers seeking energy efficiency, safety, and environmental protection in high-temperature insulation.

Frequently Asked Questions about PE-Faced Nano Microporous Insulation Board

Quick answers to common technical and commercial questions engineers and procurement teams ask about our PE-Faced Nano Microporous Insulation Board. For specifications not covered here, please contact our technical team.

The polyethylene film facing on our PE-faced nano microporous insulation board serves three primary functions. First, it acts as a vapor barrier that limits moisture ingress into the microporous core during transport, storage, and intermittent operation cycles, which preserves thermal performance over the long service life. Second, it provides a clean, smooth working surface that is easy to wipe down during installation and maintenance, reducing fiber shed and dust. Third, it adds a small amount of mechanical protection against scuffs and minor impacts during handling on site. The PE film itself is a thermoplastic layer laminated to the board face during manufacture. For applications where the board is exposed to elevated temperatures the facing remains stable; the underlying microporous board handles the thermal load while the PE protects the upstream face from contamination and humidity. The film can be specified in standard clear or in selected colors on request.
Yes, PE-faced nano microporous insulation board is well suited to outdoor and high-humidity service. The polyethylene film facing forms a continuous moisture barrier on the exposed face, reducing water absorption into the microporous core compared to unfaced boards. In petrochemical installations, marine terminals, and coastal process plants, PE-faced board maintains its published thermal conductivity after years of atmospheric exposure. For fully outdoor service we recommend additionally wrapping joints with a compatible PE tape and sealing the perimeter with a weatherproof cladding to prevent lateral moisture migration behind the facing. The PE film has a service temperature range from minus 40 degrees Celsius to approximately 80 degrees Celsius continuous, so for hot-face service above this range the PE protects the cold face while the microporous core handles the heat. Please share your environmental conditions and we will recommend the appropriate joint sealing detail.
PE-faced nano microporous insulation board is commonly specified in food and beverage processing facilities where hygiene and cleanability matter. The polyethylene facing is a food-contact grade polymer that complies with US FDA 21 CFR and EU 10/2011 food contact regulations when supplied in the standard formulation. The smooth, non-porous face wipes clean with standard cleaning agents and does not shed fibers into the process environment. Common applications include insulation of cooking vessels, sterilization retorts, pasteurization lines, and clean-room process pipework. For applications subject to direct food contact, the facing must be rated for the specific food type and contact conditions. Where food contact is incidental to insulation duty, the standard PE facing is sufficient. If your installation requires EHEDG, 3-A, or specific kosher and halal compliance, please indicate this at quotation stage so we can supply the correct documentation and certification.
The maximum service temperature of PE-faced nano microporous insulation board is determined by the microporous core, not by the PE facing. The microporous core sustains continuous operation up to 950 degrees Celsius and peak exposure up to 1100 degrees Celsius for short transients. The PE facing itself is stable up to approximately 80 degrees Celsius continuous use, after which it softens; this is normally not a limitation because the facing sits on the cold face of the assembly, well away from the hot process. In a typical installation where the board is bonded to a hot surface, the cold face rarely exceeds 60 degrees Celsius. If the application places the PE facing on the hot side, the temperature limit drops to the facing thermal rating. Please share your heat-flow profile and we can confirm the configuration. PE-faced board is widely used in district heating, steam lines, and process piping with cold-face temperatures consistently below the PE service limit.
PE facing and aluminum foil facing serve overlapping but distinct purposes. PE is a polymer film optimized for moisture resistance, cleanability, and food-grade applications. Aluminum foil is a metal layer optimized for radiative heat reflection, vapor blocking at high temperature, and aesthetics on visible installations. For purely thermal performance, a thin aluminum foil facing reduces surface emissivity and can drop cold-face temperature by 5 to 10 percent compared to unfaced board. PE facing delivers no radiative benefit but offers superior cleanability and chemical resistance in wet or food environments. Many industrial projects specify PE for process-side applications where hygiene is critical and aluminum foil for power and petrochemical applications where radiant heat reflection matters more. We can also supply hybrid laminates with PE on one face and aluminum foil on the other when a single board must serve both duties. Send us your application brief and we will recommend the right facing combination.
PE-faced nano microporous insulation board is installed using the same mechanical methods as standard board, with one additional consideration to protect the facing. The board can be bonded with high-temperature inorganic adhesive for permanent mountings or secured with stainless steel banding and welded pins for removable cladding. Pin spacing typically follows a 300 millimeter grid with closer centers near edges and penetrations. When cutting on site, score the facing with a sharp blade first to avoid tearing the film away from the core. Joints between boards are filled with ceramic fiber strip and sealed with high-temperature foil tape or PE tape as appropriate. The facing should remain intact through handling; any cuts or tears should be sealed with compatible adhesive tape. For project-specific installation drawings, isometric layouts, and pin schedules, our engineering team can prepare a detailed bill of materials on receipt of your piping or equipment isometrics.

Why Engineers Choose PE-Faced Microporous Insulation

The PE-faced nano microporous insulation board is a high temperature insulation panel with a 50 µm polyethylene film laminated to both faces — washable, food-grade, and resistant to incidental moisture during commissioning.

Beneath the PE skin, the same fumed silica microporous core as the standard board delivers microporous thermal insulation with thermal conductivity 0.020 W/(m·K) — no compromise on heat-stopping performance.

For clean-room process equipment, food and beverage service, or any installation where wash-down is part of the operating procedure, this microporous insulation panel with PE film prevents fiber shed and absorbs less than 1 % water by weight.
